A hummingbird in Krakow

Have you ever heard a hummingbird sing? They say that's the most beautiful sound in the world. And if that's true, just imagine a hummingbird dancing. What a wonderful dance that must be! But what if there are many hummingbirds?

Last weekend there were lots of hummingbirds in Krakow, Poland. They were dancing blues. And I got to dance with them and become a hummingbird myself, too. The weekend was one of the best in my whole life. Even though Krakow itself did not like me, I will go back there again next year to feel that love again.

Krakow introduced itself to me in a very unpleasant way. After getting to the city I had to find my accommodation, where my host was waiting. I stepped in a wrong bus, went to another bus stop that was hot as sauna, waited there for very long time and finally managed to find my way to the hosts place. It was 34 degrees warm and I was hungry and thirsty. And it didn't end there. I still had to find the brunch place where I had promised to go with my friend. I got lost because google maps misguided me. When I finally got some food, it had been nine hours since I had last eaten.

The st. Maria basilika with thunder clouds.

But after that things got better. I went to Avangarda restaurant where the first party was held and danced until three o'clock. A tiny hummingbird flew on my cheek and stayed there for the rest of the event. I also ate sushi for the second time in my life and was surprised of how good it tastes.

On Saturday I realized my shoes where not meant for walking. It was a twenty minutes walk to Kazimierz, the jewish quarter, and it made my feet hurt very much. On the way there was Wavel castle. We did not go inside but the castle looked amazing outside, too. I had a tea in Kazimierz and then there was still a bit walking ahead because I was going to make tortillas in another blues dancer's home. There were people from Poland, USA and Germany and of course me from Finland. I got to taste some Polish vodka for dessert and it was better than the Russian one.

There was another castlelike fortress in a park near my host's apartment.

After sleeping well at night I went to lake Bagry on Sunday. There was a piknik with cuddling piles, dancing and pierogi, the traditional Polish pastries. The beach was owned by a sailing club, so I could see some sailing boats, too.

On Sunday evening I went to Lost bar for the party but could only dance one song. Then came the throat ache, stomach ache and foot ache. And as if that hadn't been enough, I also got really dizzy. I don't know what would have happened if the other hummingbirds hadn't taken care of me so well. They gave me some salt and water and suddenly the dizziness was gone. I got more energy and stayed at the party until it ended at four a.m. The atmosphere was awesome; there was slow music and soft, huggy dances. It was the best party of them all, even though I was ill at first.

On Hummingbird blues I learned a lot. Not only about blues, but about love. How easy it is to be loving and make other people feel good about themselves. And that also gives a good feeling to you. Nowhere else do I feel as loved as with blues people. Once I thought it was magic, but now I know I am doing it too.
